Generous donation for National Star College from Echo Trust
Thanks to a nomination from Liquid and Diva Nightclub in Gloucester, the National Star College has been awarded a grant of £7,500 from the Echo Trust, the charity set up by Luminar Leisure Limited, Britain’s largest operator of late night venues and which is supported by Atmosphere Bars and Clubs Limited. The generous grant will enable the College to purchase a hoist for its new hydrotherapy pool, which will be located within a new Therapies Centre currently being built at the College as part of the Star Appeal Development.
Hydrotherapy is used to treat conditions affecting muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and other soft tissues and joints, and also benefits those with acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and paralysis. The very warm water allows muscles to relax and eases pain – so increasing ease of movement. At the same time, exercising in water helps build strength, while still protecting and supporting muscles and joints. It allows the user freedom of movement they can never otherwise experience.
Kate Green from the National Star College said:
“Hydrotherapy sessions are currently delivered within the College’s small swimming pool, which greatly limits the College’s capacity to deliver this much-needed therapy. The new hydrotherapy will enable the College to offer more hydrotherapy sessions to a greater number of students. A huge thank you to the Echo Trust and Liquid and Diva in Gloucester for helping us transform this area of the College and as a result students lives.”
Jon Jackson, General Manager of Liquid and Diva, presented the cheque to students at the College and spoke about the grant:
“It is a pleasure to be able to support the Echo Trust every year. Our staff and door supervisors work hard to secure those, all important, donations from our customers to enable equipment, such as a hoist for the new hydrotherapy pool, to even be purchased. During the year, we have raised a fantastic amount for Echo and it is a valuable experience to be able to meet the staff at National Star College. I am immensely proud of my team but more importantly our customers for helping us raise such a terrific amount to enable such a purchase for a worthy cause.”
