National Star Foundation - Kate Green, Director of Fundraising wins Women in Business Award

Tuesday 10th April at 03:50pm

Kate Green, Director of Fundraising at National Star Foundation, won the ‘Award for Innovation’ on Thursday 29th March at The Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo’s Women in Business Awards in association with Coutts.

Kate, who has managed fundraising for National Star College for four years, was merited the award for her pioneering Star Investors Scheme which has raised much-needed funds to adapt a college building for specialist residential use.

Star Investors were invited to subscribe to packaged units in the Lake House project including a donation and three years interest free loan. With matched funding from a charitable trust, each package cost investors £1,875 after the three years but raised a valuable £12,750 for the College.

The award was presented at the black-tie Women in Business Awards dinner at Cheltenham Racecourse attended by over 270 of Gloucestershire’s leading business women. There were eight awards presented at the event.

Stephen Shortt, Director at Intamarque who are investors in the scheme, comments:
"The National Star College is a shining example of forward thinking and innovation, and it’s right on our doorstep. We welcome this opportunity to make a contribution to the expansion of the College’s facilities and resources to provide more opportunities for young people with disabilities".

Kate Green, Capital Appeals Director, National Star College, comments:
"I am extremely honoured to have been nominated for the Women in Business Awards, and believe that in winning the Award for Innovation, this demonstrates that charities can and have to be business like in their approach to fundraising.
It’s important that National Star Foundation donors and supporters fully understand the impact that their support has for young people with disabilities, and the Star Investor scheme enables us to do just that by offering a social return rather that a financial one. Social investment is an exciting area of growth for the National Star Foundation and will play an important role in our future development".
