Star Appeal Chairman wins Trustee of the Year
Peter Cottingham, who was Chairman of the National Star College’s £15.4 million Star Appeal fundraising campaign, won Trustee of the year at the Cheltenham Volunteer Awards ceremony last week.
Peter was given the award in recognition of his commitment and hard work for the charity, having been a trustee since 2001. Peter made a huge difference to the organisation and ultimately to the lives of many disabled young people.
Peter said about winning the award:
“I am absolutely delighted to be chosen as Trustee of the Year. It’s incredibly important that trustees are recognised by the volunteer community. It's a crucial role but also great fun – I urge other local people to consider getting involved.”
The Alderman Charles Foster Memorial Awards took place at St Matthew’s Church Church in Clarence Street, Cheltenham on Wednesday 9th November.
GAVCA (Gloucestershire Association for Voluntary and Community Action) organised the awards with support from colleagues from various voluntary and community groups in the town. Angela Gilbert, of GAVCA said:
“Cheltenham has incredible support from the voluntary and community sector, the skills and talents of volunteers really make a difference in our communities. The awards recognise what an important role volunteers have in our town.”
“It was great to see the wide variety of nominations received and it certainly made judging an extremely difficult task. It just goes to show that volunteering in Gloucestershire is going from strength to strength,” she added.
