Star Appeal » Who Benefits
National Star College is, first and foremost, a community that respects and cares for all its members, putting its heart and soul into helping them succeed.
Young people come to us from all over the UK with many different conditions including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, hydrocephalus, muscular dystrophy, chromic arthritis, brain injuries, learning and communication difficulties, emotional and behavioural challenges as well as sensory impairments.
Seventy five percent of our students use wheelchairs, most require very high levels of personal support, nearly half require speech and language therapy, one in five uses a communication aid and one in eight suffer from life threatening conditions.
Our students represent a wide spectrum of ability. Some aim for higher education or employment. For others, simply being able to communicate with new people, to drive their own wheelchair or manage everyday tasks are huge achievements. For all, feeling confident and safe away from home opens a world of opportunity.
What all of our students have in common is a wonderful spirit, a love of life and the desire to make the most of it.
Over four decades we have enriched the lives and widened the horizons of thousands of young people through holistic programmes of education, therapy, independence training, personal care and pastoral support. We know we can provide an even richer experience for our students if we can enhance our learning, living and therapeutic facilities.
The education and care of our students requires highly specialized accommodation, equipment and staffing. Significantly improving our range of specialized facilities is the major purpose of the Star Appeal.
