Starting at 8.30am on the morning of the 7th March, Julian and Stuart will be running just over 26 miles, starting and finishing in Avinguda María Cristina in the heart of Barcelona. During the route they will pass famous landmarks such as the Camp Nou (Barcelona FC) and the Sagrada Familia.
Over the last few months they have been training hard and fundraising hard and hope that people will support them and the fantastic causes that they are raising money for.
Julian Ralph who is the senior tutor in sports and recreation at the National Star College said "Stu and I really wanted to take on a challenge and raise some money for charity at the same time. We decided that we would enter the Barcelona Marathon and hopefully raise our target of £1,500 for our chosen charities, both of which are very close to our hearts. We have been pledged an extra £100 on top of what we have already raised if we complete the marathon in under four hours so that is the goal at the moment!"

In the new look, larger shop, students will be running it themselves, learning vital skills while working in a real life business. The new shop, which is open to staff and students here at the College, will teach students about retail, cash flow, stock taking and running a business.
Beechwood Shopping Centre has chosen the National Star College as its nominated charity for 2010.
Fundraising from events held at the centre throughout the year will be donated to the college.
Mr Acland said he had been keen to support a local charity since taking up his appointment in January and was delighted to announce the centre’s association with National Star College."Beechwood has always tried to be part of the local community but we felt that this year we wanted to do even more and we have chosen to support the National Star College because of its tremendous work for young people, both locally and nationally. It’s such a worthwhile cause and we hope that the people of Cheltenham will do all they can to support our fundraising efforts throughout the year" he said.
Martin Quantock, town centre manager, said: "Beechwood is one of Cheltenham’s major shopping destinations and attracts many visitors. This will give wide publicity for the National Star College and hopefully will be reflected in its support of the College. I’m delighted to be part of the opening of Star College’s new shop to kickstart that relationship."
The shop, which was previously virtually impossible for students in wheelchairs to access, relying on staff to pass things down from the shelves, has had a total redesign. It is now open plan, allowing students to wander around and browse as they would do any shop in town.
Mike Youart, job mentor at the National Star College said, "Students can’t wait to officially open their revamped shop and start trading. Whereas before there was a limited offer, with limited space, the shop will now be selling a wider variety of things with Fair Trade produce through a link with Stroud Oxfam."
Performing Arts students from the National Star College have come together to form a new business venture called ‘Crystal Dance Company’. Following the success of shows like Strictly Come Dancing and So You Think You Can Dance and the rising popularity of dance, the company will be taking dance workshops out to local schools in Cheltenham.
The new company, made up entirely of Star College students, offer a five minute street dance performance followed by a 45 minute workshop to develop pupils’ dance skills and then finishes with an opportunity for question and answers. The workshop is intended to help develop dance skills, build confidence, develop communication and team work skills and it is also a great way for staff and pupils to learn a bit more about disability.
Oliver Porter who is in the media team of Crystal Dance said "Our purpose is to take dance out to schools and show people how diverse and inspirational we can be. As this is a business venture for us we are charging £50 for each workshop and hope that the schools will really feel that they get value for money. Bookings are being taken from 2nd March until 30th March."
Louise Portlock, dance tutor at National Star College, said "It is fantastic that the students are taking their own initiative and running this company. They hope to generate some income so they can buy their own costumes and develop the professionalism of the company."
